Character Artist Intern

We are looking to expand the Hazelight team with a full-time Character Artist Intern.

Hazelight is an independently owned game development studio, in March last year we released our first title A Way Out on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. We have now embarked on our next creative adventure. Hazelight is led by Josef Fares, writer and director of A Way Out and Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons.

As our new Character Artist Intern, you will work on-site with Hazelight’s great development team in our offices in Stockholm, Sweden. Last year we moved into our own corner of the magnificent Münchenbryggeriet by the waterfront in Södermalm, Stockholm.

Responsibilities

As a Character Artist Intern joining during the latter half of our current project you will be involved in the character creation process from start to finish, being responsible for both finalizing preexisting mockup characters made by other artists in the team, as well as creating completely new characters. You will take part in everything regarding character art, from sculpting, modeling and texturing to the final integration into Unreal Engine 4. You will be working closely together with Artists, Technical Artists and Animators to push the visual and technical quality of the characters to the next level.

Qualifications

  • A strong portfolio, showing high quality finalized character art.
  • Strong modeling and texturing skills in a diverse visual range of characters and assets.
  • Great artistic sense of shape and color with an excellent eye for detail.
  • Experience modeling and texturing using Maya, Zbrush and Substance Painter (or similar programs).
  • Being able to work with style variety and feeling comfortable with thinking creatively outside of the box.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work efficiently within a team.
  • Maintaining the production pipeline and meeting deadlines.

Environment Artist Intern

We are looking to expand the Hazelight team with a full-time Environment Artist Intern at our offices in Södermalm, Stockholm.

As our new Environment Artist Intern, you will work on-site with Hazelight’s great development team. 

Responsibilities

As an intern Environment Artist joining during the latter half of our current project, you will help iterate on, refine and eventually finalize the environments of our game. Environment artists at Hazelight have a very broad role, working on all aspects of the art, from composition, set-dressing, and lighting to asset creation and performance optimization. You will create new art assets from scratch in Modo and also help finalize preexisting mockup art assets made by other artists in the team. Aside from pure aesthetics, you will work alongside level designers, technical artists, and animators, iterating on visual communication of gameplay, preparing areas for cutscenes and optimizing assets and environments for performance and other technical or gameplay aspects.

Qualifications

  • A strong portfolio, showing both high quality finalized assets and full environments
  • Great artistic sense of shape, color, and composition
  • Excellent eye for detail
  • Vivid imagination and ability to take creative initiative
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Knowledge of Modo and/or Unreal is a plus

Level Designer Intern

We are looking to expand the Hazelight team with a full-time Level Designer Intern at our offices in Södermalm, Stockholm.

As our new Level Designer Intern, you will work on-site with Hazelight’s great development team in our offices in Stockholm, Sweden.

Responsibilities

As a Level Designer Intern at Hazelight, you will be both implementing gameplay mechanics, scenarios, puzzles, and levels as well as taking personal ownership over the tasks you are given.

You will need to have a close relationship with all other departments of the company to make the gameplay experience the best it possibly can be.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and experience working within a team
  • Excellent knowledge of Unreal Engine 4, Blueprints specifically
  • Documented experience working with level design and game design
  • Previous experience with scripting languages (C#, LUA, AngelScript) is a big plus.

Gameplay Programmer

We are looking to expand the Hazelight team with a full time Gameplay Programmer at our offices in Södermalm, Stockholm.

As our new Gameplay Programmer you will work on-site with Hazelight’s great development team in our offices in Stockholm, Sweden.

 

Responsibilities

As a gameplay programmer you will be working on a variety of gameplay systems. You will build systems from a prototype state into fully integrated parts of the game, taking them to a final polished and shippable state.

You will collaborate with the Design team on features and the feel of the gameplay, implementing requests and taking initiative in coming up with improvements to both gameplay and technical aspects.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of professional game development experience working on gameplay.
  • Experience programming in C++ and a strong understanding of programming fundamentals.
  • Greatly motivated to provide the best final gameplay experience to the player.
  • Experience with version control systems such as perforce and git.
  • Previous experience working in Unreal Engine 4 is a plus.
  • Knowledge of game networking is a plus.

Cutscene Animator

– At least 1 year of professional experience working with animation, experience working with games is no requirement.

– Documented experience working with motion capture data.

– Excellent knowledge of Motionbuilder and Maya.

– Great attention to animation details and understanding of animation principles.

– Good communication skills and experience working in a team environment.

– Able to animate natural and expressive motion to create fluid character animations.

 

Responsibilities

As a Cutscene Animator you will be working with both motion capture and key-framing techniques, and your tasks will be animating cutscenes exclusively.

Technical Animator

– Expert knowledge of Maya and/or Motionbuilder

– Excellent knowledge in scripting languages, Python experience is required

– Character Rigging/Skinning

– A knack for solving technical Problems

– Good communication skills and experience working in a team environment

– Fundamental animation skills

 

The following skills are advantageous: 

– Experience working with Facial rigging

– Experience working with Motion Capture

– Experience working with C++

– Experience working with Unreal Engine 4
